Sunset from Yeranos: When the Road Becomes a Story
There are roads that cannot be described simply as routes. They become experiences. That was exactly what my journey to Yeranos was like with Aghasi, during the “Four Together” travel experience.
When the car left the noise of the city behind, I realized that this day was not going to be just another trip. From the very beginning, Aghasi said a sentence that stayed with me throughout the entire journey:
“If the road does not touch your heart, you should never offer it to someone else.”
And perhaps that is the whole secret behind “Four Together.”
Today, travel is often measured by the number of places you visit. The more stops you make, the more successful the day seems. But here, everything was the opposite. We were not rushing. We were experiencing the road itself.
Every few kilometers, nature changed its mood. At one moment the mountains were grey, and the next they were golden. Yellow blended with green, then shades of purple appeared, and in the distance, blue mountain ranges stretched across the horizon. It was the same road, the same landscape, but after every turn, it felt as if we were entering a completely different world.
I have travelled a lot across Armenia, but that day I once again realized that one of the greatest wonders of our country is the changing light. In just a few minutes, the same landscape can become a thousand times more beautiful.
We arrived in Yeranos exactly when the sun was preparing to say goodbye to the day.
Describing a sunset with words is almost impossible. The sky changed from pink to orange, then to red, and finally to soft shades of purple. The distant blue of Lake Sevan absorbed all those colours, while the wind seemed unwilling to disturb that peaceful silence.
For a long time, we said nothing.
And it was in that silence that I understood why Aghasi had chosen this particular travel forma, a driver and three travellers.
Four people are enough to keep a conversation alive inside the car. But they are also few enough for everyone to have their own space and their own silence. No one remains just an observer. Everyone becomes part of the journey.
Aghasi does not see himself as just a driver. It would be more accurate to call him a companion. He knows the roads, but he does not try to rush you toward a destination. When a beautiful view appears, he stops. When it is worth staying a few minutes longer, he does not look at the clock. When there is a story to tell, he tells it. When silence is needed, he simply stays silent.
Today, when everything has become so fast, “Four Together” offers an almost forgotten luxury, slowing down. Here, it is not only about where you are going. What matters more is what you feel along the way.
Aghasi says that a good journey is not the one where you see many places. A good journey is the one after which you return home slightly changed. And I think that is exactly what happened.
I did not return home only with photographs of the Yeranos sunset. I returned with the feeling that Armenia can still surprise me. That there are still roads where you can simply stop, do nothing, and feel happy.
At first glance, “Four Together” may seem like just another travel package. But in reality, it is much more than that.
It is an invitation to slow down for a day. It is a chance to learn how to look out of the window again. It is a reminder that sometimes the most valuable moment of a journey is not a famous monument, but a sunset from Yeranos, a cup of tea under the open sky, or a silence shared with people who were strangers in the morning but felt like old friends by evening.
And if one day the road takes you to Yeranos, do not rush to arrive. Look around. Because sometimes the most beautiful story does not begin where you reach, but where you simply decide to stop.
