Rafting: Real adrenaline

…Unable to bear the thought that Saro was gone forever, Anush throws herself into the Debed River.
“Old Debed grieved alone in the dark abyss.
The mourning river, old Debed,
Its heart torn apart,
Its waters foaming,
Along its rocky banks,
Beneath its towering cliffs,
Still beats,
Still sighs…”
This article is by no means an analysis of Hovhannes Tumanyan’s Anush poem. It is about rafting on the Debed River. 🙂
I was looking for adventure, adrenaline, and unforgettable memories. My destination was the Lori Province. I was about to go rafting on the Debed River—a 12-kilometre route lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes. The price was 12,000 AMD, which included the equipment, experienced instructors, and insurance. Rafting in Armenia takes care of everything in advance, so you don’t have to worry.
My life jacket was on. True, it didn’t add a single drop of sexiness, but it definitely made me feel safe. 🙂 Before we started the route, the instructor gave us a detailed briefing on rafting techniques and safety rules. It turned out that no matter what happened while we were on the raft, we had to hold on tightly to our paddles. They were the only thing that would save us if we ended up in the river.
…We set off onto the river. We paddled forward, and in some places the waves were so strong that, on command, only those sitting on the right or the left side paddled.
I won’t tell you much more, so that later you can share your own experiences. I’ll just say one thing. Every one of us has faced situations where we had to make the right decision in a matter of seconds, without the luxury of making a mistake. I realized that it is impossible to compete with the water. You have to respect it and surrender to its rhythm, and only then will everything go well.
One hour and twenty minutes passed in the blink of an eye. Everyone should try rafting at least once in their life. Why? Because in a very short time you will experience an incredible range of emotions, enjoy the picturesque scenery along the river, discover your own level of physical endurance, and simply enjoy being surrounded by nature.
Oh, and I almost forgot—don’t forget to bring a change of clothes.
Girls… rafting doesn’t like makeup. 🙂
